Installation Art

Christian Marclay

- visual artist and composer -

Swiss artist, Christian Marclay is a fusion of fine art and audio art. He often turns sounds or music into something you can appreciate visually, using media such as - performance art, collages, sculptures, installations, photography and video -.

His art is playful and surrealist, using gramophone records and found records he created musical collages that create new sounds and songs out of pre existing ones. He reinvents sound and film and repurposes it, creating new songs, or videos.

His most famous art piece is "The Clock" that is a functional film piece. He collected a bunch of scenes from different films of any genre - sci fi, noir, old westerns, etc. - and put them together to create a working clock that takes you on a trip through film history and doubles as a working clock.

This is a small part of this art work. Its interesting to watch this piece for several reasons; you can appreciate so many different types of film and aesthetics. Different moods that different directors where trying to create can be appreciated. We can see how people use clocks in different situations and you can also tell the time as you watch this film.

I like the way he turns forgotten things into practical things, like his music and his films. He takes a turn on art pieces and makes you look at things from a different perspective, the way you can put two things together and create a completely different outcome.

Yayoi Kusama

- abstract artist -

Yayoi Kusama is  Japanese artist and writer that works in different types of media like painting, collages, sculptures, performance art and installation art being her most famous work. Her work is abstract, minimalistic and colourful. She has inspired feminism, mental health and artist in the way she has delivered her mesmerising pieces of work.

She portrays her obsession with dots, infinity, patterns and repetition in immersive rooms where you can get lost in what she actually lives through. She experiences psychological trauma and hallucinations; this compels her to show her experience through hypnotic and captivating pieces.

Infinity Room

These are some of her most famous art works. She is an inspiring individual because she turns her illness into something mesmerising and that speaks to people in different ways. She has made a difference to people that struggle with mental health, she has influenced western art introducing that world into a more asian point of view. She has also strived in a mainly male dominant industry and helped female artists to grow and to aim higher. She is a truly inspiring person and her art is something from another world.
